What is Castaway Cay like?
Disney purchased Gorda Cay, about 175 miles off
the coast of Miami, and using that infamous "Disney
Magic", transformed this secluded island into a private oasis
for the exclusive use of their cruise guests. Disney characters
greet you on shore, where you can enjoy the crystal clear
turquoise waters at one of the 3 separate beaches. There is a
beach reserved exclusively for teens, one for adults only and a
family beach. Adults can enjoy the peacefulness and serenity of
Serenity Bay, their private palm-lined beach, while teens enjoy
the volleyball and tetherball courts adjacent to their beach.
Families congregate at Castaway Family Beach and Scuttle’s Cove
is reserved for children, offering parents an opportunity to enjoy
some "adult time" on the island. Lush foliage and
hammocks dot the landscape and lounge chairs are abundant.
What is the weather like?
Weather in tropical Castaway Cay
is generally warm and sunny, with afternoon temperatures averaging
in the 80’s.
Where does the ship dock?
This is the only cruise ship’s private island
that can boast its own terminal, whereby the ships can actually
dock at the pier. Disney has also constructed a system of trams to
transport passengers from the pier to the various areas of the
island. The main beach is a ten-minute walk ride from the pier.
Where is the shopping?
There is a small shopping area where souvenirs
and Disney logo items can be purchased.
What is there to buy?
Local
crafts, wood carvings and Disney logo items.

What is there to do?
In typical Disney fashion, they erected
"shipwrecks" and sunken treasures underwater to enhance
your snorkeling experience. You can go sailing or paddle a sea
kayak, swim or enjoy the calm waters on a tube or raft. Lounge in
the midday sun or have a relaxing massage in the open-air cabanas.
You can take a bike ride or a stroll or participate in an on-going
volleyball game.
What are my choices for dining and drinking?
Cookies Bar-B-Q offers the standard picnic/island fare of
hotdogs, burgers, ribs, fries and salads. There is an adults only
bar in their part of this island retreat
